Geddes Loudspeakers

The Geddes line of loudspeakers consists of four models, three in kit form.  These speakers represent the current state-of-the-art in loudspeaker design using the highly acclaimed waveguides that have been developed by Dr. Geddes over the period of some twenty years.  A white paper highlights Dr. Geddes approach to systems design.  This paper defines the design principle that go into each Summa product.  Several reviews of the Summa are available. These reviews testify to the correctness of the Dr. Geddes approach as manifested in his own home system.

The product line is highlighted by the full Summa which has a 15" high performance woofer and a 15" waveguide.  The construction is unique, with space-age composite plastic enclosure and high performance polished finishes. The waveguides from this system are sold separately.  The speaker is 36" x 24" x 15".

The next in the line is the Abbey which has a 12" HP woofer and a 12" waveguide.  This systems full data can be seen at a link in the table below.  Not nearly as big or as expensive as the Summa, the Abbey is none-the-less a very comparable performer.   The Abbey is available as a full kit, a waveguide, a baffle only or fully assembled, painted and tested.  It measures 29" x 15" x 12".

The lower end of the line is the Nathan which has a 10" woofer and a 10" waveguide. Designed for constrained spaces and budgets, this speaker still performs among the very best available at any price.  The Nathan is available as a full kit, a waveguide, a baffle only or fully assembled, painted and tested. Its size is 24" x 12" x 10".

The newest addition to the line is the Harper which is a much smaller speaker that is ideal for usage as a surround or a small main system.  It is important that the tone color of a surround be comparable to that of the mains and the Harper fits this criteria to a tee.  Despite its small size 19" X 10" X 8" its performance is admirable, but most notably, it echoes the constant directivity performance of its larger and more powerful cousins.

Now Gedlee has added the Geddes 12 Sub.  This is a very high power passive sub of the bandpass design as only Dr. Geddes can do it.  But the best part of buying a Geddes sub is the setup analysis that is provided.  With every sub comes a run of a complex room/sub fitting algorithm which is design to be implemented on a low cost Behringer DCX2496 (not provided).  A few simple signals are recorded on a PC - each sub alone and the mains alone - using any simple mic and Windows recording software (shareware) (this is all LF stuff and mic capability is not an issue) a supplied signal is recorded and the data sent to GedLee labs.  The optimum setting for the subs is then supplied for the DCX unit for the ideal bass response in YOUR room.  This is the only way to achieve the optimum bass response in any room and now it can be achieved in your room.

Bass is completely room dependent and just buying a sub (or several) will not insure a satisfactory response in any given room.  Now you can have the subs custom fit to your room!  This is a full multiple sub optimization that will ensure the best bass that your room is capable of and the best sub match to the renowned Geddes Mains.

All of these speaker kits use premium drivers made by B&C in Italy, not Chinese "wannabes".  This is a major portion of the kits above average price, but other "average" kits almost universally use cheaper Chinese made drivers - and there IS a difference.  The crossover parts are all high quality parts.  The cost of these systems is in those parts that matter most, not those parts that do not.

Stand alone waveguides are also available.

Example manual shown here.

Complete kit has all necessary parts: drivers, crossover, baffle with waveguide and foam insert, cabinet hardware, instructions - some gasket materials may need to be provided. (Some woodworking skills may be required for assembly and sanding and filling is necessary on the edges. Power tools would be helpful. A small amount of soldering is also required.)

The Harper kit has the enclosure assembled, all others are loose parts.

Drivers for Summa15 are B&C 15TBX100 and DE250-8

Drivers for Abbey12 are B&C 12TBX100 and DE250-8

Drivers for Nathan10 are B&C 10PS26 and DE250-8

Drivers for Harper8 are B&C 8PS21 and DE10

Assembled prices include matte colors in black, white or red (with other colors sometimes available on request). High gloss finish is $200, $150, $100 extra (per speaker) for the Abbey, Nathan and Harper respectively and is available in just about any color with a sample to match.

Deposits must be made to get in the delivery queue.

Changes to content can be made at the discretion of the manufacturer and options can be eliminated at any time. (It is highly likely that the baffle only option will be eliminated in the future as I can't keep up with the demand.)

Oversea orders are complex and an added handling charge of $100 for each shipment (up to 3 kits) may be charged in addition to the shipping costs for any product sent outside of the US (including Canada). $100 (each speaker) will be charged for crates for the assembled models - when required.
